Has anyone noticed if their dvd drive has increased in noise level? My elite was relatively quiet, after the fall update though ive noticed it seems to have gotten louder.

quiet as a mouse? I think you'll find that anything n64 and before was quieter than this heep of crap. I got an elite and I cant tell the difference in noise between this and the premium/core. I mean I need headphones to listen to a movie on low volume lol or its just "hummmmmm"

Well...that's stretching it a bit

Not noticed any difference here, last couple of new games i have bought do spin the disk drive faster. Halo 3 for example spins the disc faster than some older games.

It's funny when I hear people talk about their PS3 being as loud as the 360! I turned on my PS the otherday and it was completely silent, the 360 is getting louder I think. The noise is horrific sometimes! It's come to the stage when if I'm on the PC I can't stand having the 360 on as it's just irritating.

Never heard any of my mates PS3's been loud, but compare my 360 to there ps3 and it sounds like a hoover

I have two 360's, one sounds like a dustbuster, the other is competely silent. The other one is broke right enough.

Kind of why I got rid my HD-DVD add-on. I put up with the noise in games but I can't when watching movies.

That's why I've always intended to purchase the PS3 versions of games all being equal (GTA4/Burnout Paradise etc), I just won't be able to stand the constant thrashing of the DVD drive all the time.

The fact that my 360 is now in silicon heaven makes the decision even easier.

I dont think you notice it after a while, the only time the noise was really an issue was when i bought the hd-dvd drive addon, i couldnt listen to stuff quietly when my sprogs were in bed, i tend to be engrossed when playing so dont even notice it.

i can barely hear my console at all with the 5.1 turned up
