Well, I finally just ordered an i5 2500k (not from here unfortunately) and, frankly, I am shocked by the how much they are costing! I seem to recall that only 2 weeks ago they were retailing at 150 ish quid, and now not only are OCUK selling them for more than 170 quid, but you pretty much can't find them anywhere for less than 160!

Why has the price risen this much? The old i5 750 only cost 150 quid for the duration of its lifespan :(

I think as it got closer to bulldozer release, the price went down a little and then when it got delayed the price went back up.

Looking at the "spec. me" threads a couple of weeks back the 2500K was £161.99.

Prices change all the time.

Some of the HD 6950 graphics cards went from £200 to £260 in the period of a few weeks.

supply and demand and greed and no competition... :(. This has happened a few times with both AMD and Intel in the decade I've been paying attention, anyway it ensures AMD still get business from the budget conscious user and therefore can hopefully retaliate.

To be honest I was going to buy a new build from these guys this week but instead I went to one of their competitors sites since their stuff was so much cheaper overall. I know just on the I5 2500k CPU I saved 12 euros compared to buying it from here.

Shame really b/c these forums etc have been so much help. I didn't buy a O/c bundle or a ready built cpu, I bought all the parts I needed to build a decent gaming machine myself and the only thing I didnt need was a GPU.

when all was said and done I saved a little over 36 euros on my build.

Its not just just the Sandybridge chips that are getting more expensive. Its everything on OCUK. Everyday i see stuff thats gone up in price by £2 to £10. Everything from PSU's, DVD optical drives to CPU's. They are really starting to lose their edge.

its getting to the point that if you dont buy the 'this week only' stuff, your not getting a good deal any more :(

i hope OcUK get some better suppliers or something, because they are starting to fall behind the competition quite badly

I agree, was going to buy my new razer mat from here, but it was a good £5 more expensive than the competition.

:(

I know what you mean. I could have saved about £90.00 on my build and thats paying for delivery as well at another site but i still chose to buy it from here. Better the devil you know than the one you dont or so it goes. Not happy about it though.
There was a time when there pricing was truly competitive.

Supply and demand.
Unfortunately it is the dark seedy side of business, can't blame OcUK for putting the prices up, chances are OcUK have a lot 2500k's in stock, other retailers might have a shortage, in turn OcUK can charge a little more for their products. It is the way i would do it, the way i did do it in fact.

You might be right but i doubt it. Just had a quick look and no ones out of stock on much of anything.

Still i shop at OCUK because i trust them to deliver a good service to me. They always have done so far so i will continue to shop with them in the future.

That makes no sense, if other retailers have a shortage they would be the ones selling at a higher premium and those with an overage in stock would actually want to remain competitive and would obviously want to sell their stock at a lower price just to move it.

Overclockers thinks that their name alone will mean people will buy from them no matter the cost which just isn't true.

I meant that if no one else is selling them, or if there is a shortage it drives the prices up, it was only a theory. My local store doesnt have any in stock, they are a good £15-20 more expensive that OcUK on most things!
I myself think it is, your not just buying the product, your buying the service

hardware prices change all the time. Like the stock exchange lol. Buy cheap and be happy lol

In my case, look deep into the purchase reading every review you can find before spending the money, even if it means spending an extra £10 or so because it means you are getting better service because you are paranoid everything is a scam. and breathe.

Yeah, I have noticed that apart from the incredible deals on to and two, OCUK just isn't competitive. Apart from the corsair sp2500's, 180 quid?!?! That's incredible! And of course the clearance lines are good :)
