Single 6950 1GB or Crossfire?

Providing you have the correct cables, 2x 6pin PCI-E then it will be fine which I'm sure it does as he already has a single 1GB 6950 card installed.

Really don't know why everyone is obsessed with PSUs being this and that, he has an 800W PSU, it will run his 6950 fine.

Yes I have 2x 2GB 6950s :)

You obviously don't appreciate the differences between PSU's.

Nearly every component in a modern PC runs off the 12V rail(s).

A quality 800W PSU will provide all (or virtually all) the 800W on the 12V rail(s).

A cheap and nasty 800W PSU might only provde 500W on the 12V rail(s) with the rest being made up from the 3.3V and 5V supplies.

Also the OP has already used his 2 PCI-E connectors on his HD 6950. For Crossfire he'll need to start using molex adapters.

My opinion is that this is the 21st century and that even the cheapest PSUs are a lot better than previous generations although I agree there are many different variations out there.

His original question was does he buy another 1GB 6950 for crossfire or buy a single 2GB 6950 instead and I suggested he buys a single 2GB 6950 as 1GB cards are apparently not worth crossfiring and it would be a waste of money.

Since his PSU can already handle a single 1GB 6950 card, theres no reason why it couldn't handle a single 2GB card, hence why getting into details about PSU rails is a waste of time in my point of view and that's why I said it was.

If he has his mind set on buying a second 6950 and going down the crossfire route then clearly he's going to need four 6 pin PCI-e connectors, although I'm still confident that if his PSU did have these (which clearly it does not from the PSU info he posted) that it would happily run two 6950s in crossfire.
