hey guys,

been having abit of a dicussion with a friend of myne, he thinks that 2 Ati 3450 cards in Crossfire would be quicker than a single 3870,

now has anyone got any benchmarks for the 2? like against each other in games? :)

i beleive the Ati 3870 would come out on top vs those 2 wouldnt it? :)

cheers si

A single 3870 XT would absolutely crush two 3450's...

I don't even think benchmarks are necessary here, my reasoning:

A 3870 has 320 stream processors, a single 3450 has 40.
A 3870 has 16 TMUs, a single 3450 has 4. Same with ROPs.
A 3870 is clocked at 775MHz, compared to 600MHz on the 3450...
A 3870 has almost 10 times the memory bandwidth of a 3450...

Now, Crossfire by no means scales any more than about 80%. A 3850 would absolutely slaughter the dual 3450 setup, let alone a 3870.

yeah its not even a contest....the 3450 is an excellent card for HD decoding and such, but for gaming it's not even worth considering. A single 3850 would even completely slaughter 4 3450s in quad crossfire
