Single CAT5e run - 2 devices

No, I mean run a single cat5e cable from the router to another room and connect 2 devices to it, PC and xbox, without using a switch.

If you only need 100mbit, then you can use the spare pairs for a second connection - make sure you branch out the correct pairs on both ends.

Cheers.

Is it worth swapping the modem/faceplate RJ11 patch cable for a Twisted Pair one? If so can CAT5e be used? I'd like to make my own because I can only find a 3 meter one and I'd like a much shorter one than that.

If it's that short already then there's probably not much point, if it was more than 3m then you'd see a more worthwhile increase.

To be honest, if you are talking about the lead for your ADSL modem I'd not bother. Your line is potentially km's long travelling through god knows what kind of conditions so the last 3 metres are pretty trivial. If you think your local conditions are causing a particular issue then MAYBE a twisted pair cable would be better than your flat untwisted cable, but not much better.

I agree the difference will be minimal. Just wondered if RJ11 plugs would take CAT5 ;) I'm on VDSL2, my line is only 300 meters but I gather VDSL is very sensitive to line length. So I'm just trying to minimise potential interference and seen as I'll have the cable and crimp tool already I thought I might aswell get a few RJ11 plugs and put one together. I guess it's technically possible then so I might aswell go for it.

Not sure what cable to go for, CAT5e UTP or FTP? Solid core or stranded? Would stranded UTP be ok for a ~20 meter indoor run?

Yeah, stranded utp would work well. The outer plastic sleeving won't fit in the rj11 plug but that won't matter really.

Cheers.

Can I use stranded cable with a faceplate module designed for solid cable? Also should I be going for sheilded modules?
