Hey all,
was wondering if you guys think that a single GPU R9 290x or 780Ti would be able to run new games at 2560x1440? I'm starting on my new build soon and already got my self a new 540air case.

Only reason why I say single is cus I don't think a 360mm & 240mm Rad would be capable to cool the CPU & 2 GPU's when OC'd but I could be wrong. what you peeps think?

I would go for either a 290 or 780, especially if your considering Sli/Crossfire.

As for water cooling you'll be should be fine for a CPU and 2 x GPU's with those rads

better off with the two cards you have IMHO. They'll do a better job managing 1440 than a either a 290x or 780ti. I'd look into how to make your current setup work with the least amount of money spent. Not much point in spending between £400 and £600 on something that will have poorer performance than what you have.

7950s are more than enough for 1440 for a good year I reckon. Bide your time and see where prices go in the next year when mining dies a death.

No idea on second hand prices but you could flog the 7950's a while back and buy a 780Ti/290X with the money.

It would be a downgrade though, so not sure it is a wise move.

To have everything turned up @ 1440P two cards would be best. If you don't mind dropping some settings a single GTX 780 or 290 would be fine.

Hopefully 20nm will bring a GPU that can truly handle 1440P on it's own.

Was looking into single card solutions myself about a month ago - duno why, just the itch for something new I guess lol, and it looks like its still better to run a dual setup for WQHD resolution - so I'm staying put - but I'l be keeping an eye out for something that may suit our needs :)

yer im willing to get 2 cards just wasn't sure that the 2 rads would cool enough. my current setup is cooled with 2 rads and coolant temps can get into mid 40's after a while on push/pull which seems pretty high. i have already gone though a xspc res already after couple months due to glue failure. im using a monsoon res now and it seems to be holding out fine for the time being.

I'm running 1440p on SLI 770's (2GB), have no issues at all. Witcher 2 maxed (minus Uber sampling) is over 60 FPS, in fact uber sampling is around 40-50fps and very playable. Monitor is the Asus PB278Q for reference.

Then again your not looking for SLI/xfire set-ups, so I guess a 780ti will hit the spot. And SLI in future for 4K.

I have had many sli/xfire set-ups in the past so I'm used to driver and new game teething problems. Though TBH things have improved. I had a single 770 on 1080p already, it was a no brainer to just get another one for £200 when I knew I was going up to 1440p.

If I was in your position (and you can afford it!), I would get the 780ti. Its a super fast single card solution that is slightly slower than SLI 770s without the SLI hassles (Which are few, but why bother of not needed :)).
