I currently have 2 9800gtx+'s and I'm upgrading my system I was unsure if I should put them into SLI or sell them and look to buying a single graphics card :/

It depends on what motherboard you have to be honest.

2 x 9800GTX+ is as powerful as GTS 250 SLI and that is about as powerful as a ATI HD 5850. Admittedly, you may have problems with multi-GPU scaling in some games, but most modern games work with SLI rather well.

Considering you could only sell each of your cards for ~£60 each (£120 total) and a 5850 costs at least £230 new, you would need to pay in a decent amount of your own money if you want to "trade up" to a single GPU with the same performance you currently have. Therefore, I think you are best sticking with your current setup - so long as your motherboard is good for SLI.

Ive got the exact same dilema. Thinking of getting a 480 and keeping a 9800+ for physx.

TBH, if you are planning to keep one of the 9800GTX+ cards, then you may be better off getting a 5870 instead of GTX480. You won't have the heat, noise and power issues of the fermi, but you will still have PhysX and CUDA support.

why do people still bang on about the heat and noise of a fermi gpu, i have just gone from a 4870 to a 480, and to be honest it runs about the same temperature and is quieter than the 4870, i had the powercolor 4870 and under load was really noisy.

Who said anything about Radeon 4870s being cool&quiet?

Seems complicated to get ATI and Nvidia running together also in the past I ordered an ATI card for my pc and when i plugged it into my MOBO my pc wouldnt detect it. Cant be doing with that again so I prefer to stick with Nvidia.

no one said 4870'5 were quiet but its the only comparison i have atm, all i am saying is that the 480 is nowhere near as loud as people make out, and i certainly cant hear it over my ingame sound whilst playing games, so please dont use this as a judgement of buying or not, if money is the issue get an ati otherwise get an nvidia,

^^ thats your personal opinion, what's loud and hot to you maybe different to the next person, every review has stated the 480 runs hot and loud yet do you expect potential 480 buyers to believe them or one individual?

OT, I would go single card, less problems and 100% scaling in all games, 5850-5870-470-480 in that order and on the basis that the 5850 is overclocked past 5870 speeds.
