Single or Dual Core AM2?

Ok I need help deciding which processor to get for my new rig (mine just broke and i want a new one ). I can't decide between:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2) (Top One)

And

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4GHz (Socket AM2) (Bottom One)

I Play a lot of game (CoD2, Oblivion etc) but this will mainly be for Uni where i will be doing a lot of 3D rendering etc using 3D Studio Max etc etc doing a Computer Games technology course. What you think?

Also Any ideas for what DDR2 i should get for this?

To start with i've been spending too much time in GD and forgot there was a CPU forum so this has been moved.

Also ive done some sums and i can probably afford the 2.4 X2 and get the G Skill 2GB RAM instead of Corsair.

I prefer AMD (fan boy ) and I understand the Conroe MB's are quite expensive. Im not quilding an entire new system but might as well be (MB, RAM, Processor, and prolly HDD when i can afford). Also I can't stand been on this laptop till Conroe comes out (i get BSOD every time rig boots up and cant pin point the problem and couldn't fix it if i could).

Edit: looking at the price on here it seems the processors themselves aint cheap either

Just had a browse at a few conroe threads and i must say just looking at the benchmarks etc im already converted, the price def seems worth the extra few quid. I will probably overclock it aswell tbh.

I only have a 400W power supply atm, will thisbe enough to power the conroe with 2GB ra, 1x HDD and a 6600GT (gt only till i can afford better)

Easy now lol *feels flamed* read last post i made, after seeing the benches im suddenly feeling on conroeish (my new word ). I shall be having a browse at the conroe stuff now.
