Hi wonder if someone can point me to a good perm solution for using one PC with 2 monitors in different locations in a home office

My main home computer for general usage is an iMac which cannot run the software I need access to - Visio & MS Project.

I have a decent spec PC which I use for gaming, specifically sim racing, as such the PC is away from my desk is built into a dedicated sim rig.

Now with the current working from home arrangements, i would like to use my Gaming PC for some work to use applications (MS Project & Visio) which I don't have access to on my work laptop which is locked down under strict company policies. (cannot get them installed over the company secure VPM - too big)

Distance of the cable run between PC and home office desk is approx 7m, I have looked at and found a 7.5m HDMI cable to go from my PC to a 2nd Monitor on the desk

Q - How do I get mouse and keyboard on side of the room to the other ?, I believe USB max length is around 5m ? - would wireless work reliably ?

Over all I would like this to become a permanent solution as having access to this PC for other than racing games would be beneficial

Thoughts and suggestions

Thanks in advance

If you are using a regular cable (max length of 5 meters for 2.0 and max length of 3 meters for 3.0/3.1) with an active cable, then the maximum length for USB 2.0 is 25 meters (about 82 feet) and the maximum recommended length for USB 3.0/3.1 is 15 meters (about 49 feet).

You can get 10 metre active repeater USB 2.0 cables (which is all you should need for mouse or keyboard) for under £15.00 each on the Rainforest from a quick look. Wireless probably could work just fine too, and might work at the 7.5 metre distance just fine (although YMMV), or you could plug in a 5m extension to your computer and plug in the wireless dongle on the end of that, so it would only be a couple of metres from your desk then.

Thanks for the reply - I have ordered a couple of cables, and will give it a go

Its where I was leaning towards - just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something

Regards

Phil
