What's the shortest length single slot card that cab be used as a dedicated physx card ?
I've managed to locate a bfg 8800 on the MM but would like to know if there's anything a bit shorter in length

My 9800GT is a single slot, and doesn't take external power, but I don't think it's any shorter than your 8800.

What does a card that has external power delivered to it have over a card tgat doesn't?
If I'm wanting a card just for physx would I require a card powered externaly or not?

Typically, a card that doesn't need an external PCIe power cable is more efficient, draws less power, and runs cooler.

My 9800GT is just for physx, my crossfire 5770's handle 3D.

A card that does'nt use external power will be <150w. As the pci-e slot only provides upto 150w. Each 6pin pci conectior from your psu and supply another 75w.. So for an example a gtx260 with its 2 6 pin conectors can use upto 300w..
So a card that does'nt have any external power will use a lot less power.. so really if your just wanting it for physx you should look for one without... A 9800gt green edition would be good..

looking at your setup i would say that having another card for physics would be totally pointless when you already have 2 5870's in cf !
there is point at which a hobby becomes an obsessive addiction you know!

Why? The ATi cards aren't doing anything for physx, regardless of how quick they are for 3D rendering.

It's perfectly logical to want a physx processor for physx titles.

Perhaps you should cut your jealous posting style, especially given you are a first post member!

Rubbish, physx gives something that ATI does not have, not that I'm saying it's worth it mind ;)

do they not still sell just physx cards anymore? before nvidia bout aegia you could buy a physx card that was just that?

im sure there are still a couple floating around, but i dont think you can get drivers for them anymore (physx was absorbed into nvidias CUDA programming, which i believe are part of their forceware drivers, which im pretty sure dont support the old ageia cards.)
