Ive been given a single speed dremmel but have been told you can get a pedal? to vary the speed.. anyone heard of it?

next stop ebay..

Nope, never heard of pedals for a dremel. What speed is this single speed one set at? I have to admit im not too much of a fan of Dremels. Certainly not fur cutting things. I much prefer to use hacksaws or Jigsaws. The only thing I really use a dremel for is as a grinding wheel.

I just got my first dremel yesterday (variable speed) and I don't know how I ever lived without it. All the knives in my house are now nice and sharp and it cut through my 1mm thick sheet steel side panel for my server case, like a hot knife through butter.

Great little tool.

like you messiah, I use jigsaws and routers on a daily basis, and have therefore found the dremels uses rather limited for cutting, however like you said it is a very handy tool for cleaning off cut edges and, Ive found very useful polishing tool (especially when polishing some thing like a rad grill).

I have a very old single-speed Dremel and I use a light dimmer to adjust its speed. The Dremel is hard-wired to the dimmer which is in a patress(?) box to keep everything safe.
