Single sticks VS matched pairs

Essentially I need more RAM for my ageing EX-UD5 (1366) motherboard.

It's triple channel and I currently have 3x2GB matched sticks.

As I have a good 50% overclock on my X5650, I'm wary that 6 sticks might struggle to work and besides, I don't see the value of buying another set of 2x3GB just to get up to 12GB.

So, planning to go straight to 24GB with 3x8GB sticks (any other combination doesn't make sense, especially to retain triple channel).

Obviously you can't buy triple channel kits really anymore, so is there any problem with buying 3 single 8GB sticks (all the same brand etc)?

From what i've always understood, dual/triple channel kits are identical apart from being tested and guaranteed to work together?

Thanks
