Sipgate.

To be honest mate, Skype is a more popular choice for this kind of thing and for that convenience alone, it might just be worth paying their very small charges :)

At first glance, call charges look to be similar to Skype. 1.19p to UK numbers (Skype 1.2p). I would imagine their price structure would be fairly similar.

As OvertoneBliss says, Skype are the most popular VOIP provider at the moment and I for one, prefer to use a service which is tried and tested (I signed up to Skype recently).

I always think that a relatively new service provider trying to break into a market where there is a dominant provider needs to offer a pretty good incentive for people to use their service. Having looked at the Sipgate website, I see no reason for me to leave Skype and join them.

As the others have said buddy, stick with skype for now.

But I guess its best to wait and see what ebay decides to do with skype before making a change. So an alternative is always a nice option. ;)
 
Ive actually used sipgate before and found it quite good. I only tried it really because PC Format were giving away the software with a voucher for free calls along with a VOIP earpiece and mic. I phoned my dad a few times and had no problems at all. A few people phoned me on it too.

Unfortunately, ive never used skype, so i have no way of making a comparisson.
 
I find the call quality with Sipgate better than Skype, plus I use my Sipgate account with a normal analogue telephone (plugged into an ATA - analogue telephone adapter which plugs into my network) and that way I don't need to have my PC on to use the phone.

Nothing sinister yet :)
Just that Skype was acquired by Ebay last September.
And I'm probably just being the cynical old g!t that I am. ;)
