I was just thinking about him the other day, absent mindedly watching one of these "where are they now" videos. They used the picture from the above article, and I remember thinking to myself how much I would miss him - I didn't realise he was 88.

Don't usually post these threads, but he's one of those great actors who I just find it a pleasure to watch, and one who has played some iconic roles, so this has resonated with me quite a bit.

Another sad hobbituary I didn't want to read. He's another of those familiar faces -- and in his case particularly, voices -- that's been a regular in productions throughout my fairly long life. RIP.

It's been a ba couple days Vera Lynn, Willie Thorne and now Ian Holm. RIP to all who have past recently.

I look back at some of these actors/actresses and remember them as young people. Seeing them die of old age just brings back to me how we are all ageing and it will be our time soon.

First saw him as a kid in The Borrowers. The LOTR trilogy is starting to feel like a lifetime ago now.

yes my dog i lost at 16 was a Bilbo also ,he is immortalised in my box set collections though
