So i was sorting out my desktop PC my sister comes in with her new laptop which she only had back for about 2 weeks and shows me the screen which looks like its had it, ethoir that or the GPU

The screen looks like its got a big crack running form the top center to about the middle right and is about a inch thick in places, however can't see nothing when its turned off, also its got like a out of tune TV look to the text and stuff as it seems to be rolling (like at the end of games when credits roll)

She says she didn't drop it or anything all she did was turn it off, than move it up stairs..

there is no evidence of it being dropped or the screen being hit, is this just one of these things or malicious?

its a Toshiba L500

I have not stated how old it is yet:p

its only about 4 months old it spent most of its life in a computer shop waiting for a new keyboard...now the screen has gone, how would we stand for warranty means its such a young laptop? I know it has had a new keyboard unit but no one will know about it if done properly.

I mean its not normal the screen just dying like that...unless its had a bit of a bang but it takes quite a lot to break them like that

I would uplaod a photo of it, but I lost my data transfer cable

If its only 4 months old I would be taking it back to where you got it from and getting them to sort it out for you.

Why did you take to shop for a replacement keyboard?
How did that get damaged?

I know these may seem like daft quetions am judt try to figure out if you still have warranty on the machine!

the keyboard unit was replaces as for some reason the laptop refused to use it, don't know why probley shorted out....it was fine one minute than the next it wouldn't boot up. found out it was bacause of the keyboard

So it got a new one, waited months for it, now the screen dies

Also its becasue it came from the purples and they will probley charge 200+ to do it plus the unit on top plus we would be waiting months for it. So my parents took it to a local PC shop to do it instead

Well we will find out on Saturday Ill be annoying if they accuse of abuse...like i siad nothing to say its been hit and it will need to be quite hard to break it

sorry to bump, but the purples say it was on purpose, I dunno if it was or not hard to say

So its gotta go back to that PC shop, warranty is now void....lol

Let me get this right...

The keyboard failed on an in warranty laptop so you took it to a local shop rather than invoking the warranty from the purple shirts?

Why?

If it's cracked then it's almost certainly physical damage. I've seen people at work shut the screen on a laptop when they've left something on the keyboard. Cracks the LCD layer in the middle of the screen. Even the 3 year copper bottomed IBM warranty doesn't cover misuse.

First thing is first it was not me who made that decision, it was my parents. They just do what they want most of the time, personally I would have took it to were it come from first and it wouldn't have come from the purples :p but with me half the stuff what happened to it wouldn't have happened if I had it.

Also the keyboard got damp somehow, so that wouldn't be warranty. keyboards just don't work than fail all of a sudden. Again its not my decision, they will only say it got wet somehow like I did..

As for the screen I m not sure how it got cracked. if it was mine it would be still working even today.
saying that my sister never puts anything on the keyboard and shuts the lid its only half shut and its cracked on the top half, So how it got cracked is beyond me, no damage to the front part of the screen just the TFT itself. maybe she banged it? who knows.

I can't see a screen cracking like that ethoir not with some force being applied

If it got damp somehow then all bets are off. Some manufacturers now are fitting stickers inside that change colour when the internals get "damp" at which point they invalidate the warranty.

Change that to nearly all manufacturers, especially on things like phones.

OP, seems like a clear case of misuse to me, someone who gets a laptop water damaged sounds careless enough to crack a screen, despite what they might say. Suck it up and pay for the replacement.

Indeed they are, but not from the purples as they was going to charge a hell of a lot to replace it (£230 I think) when I can do it myself, ( oh wait they won't let me touch the thing) but I don't know were to get the screen from, so again its back to the PC shop, it only cost like 40-50 for them to do the keyboard. I would imagine we would have to pay for the screen. non the less a lot less expensive than what the purples would have charged.

Also to add insult the purples did offer a insurance which covers this, and I told my parents they should have taken it. it would have been a lot easier.. Than it would have been sorted out a lot quicker and for a lot less money. But as normal they just said no its a waste of money.

They can still take out the insurance through, but they would have a charge of £50 for a damm check over. So fail on their front. When I buy my sister anything to do with electronics I make sure it has insurance on it.
