Been to my sisters today to attempt to fix her PC. She told me it stopped booting after she moved it forward a few inches....

When it boots it doesn't even get as far as detecting the HDD's :( It does however show the Energy Solutions logo, identify the processor (with CPUID) and then freezes completely :(

Pressing anything on the keyboard results in a big nothing although it does offer the options of <Del> for Bios, <F12> for boot menu.

The only thing left to do at this point is power off.

I have tried resetting BIOS via the mobo jumper, running 1 stick of RAM in all 4 slots and still nothing. I had to leave at that point and have brought the machine home to try other things.

Any suggestions on what to try?

Spec:

A64 3500+ Winnie
1GB Geil Value RAM
GeForce 6600GT
Gigabyte mobo (don't know the model) AGP 939 though.

Just in case you haven't tried the obvious, have you reseated the cables? SATA cables can be rather sensitive about movement and even IDE cables can become loose, also you might want to try different cables. Have you got a different hard drive you can use to see if it boots at all?

Hehe, them cpu fans are a bugger sometimes ;)

You just got to start from the begining really...

Take the board out, and reseat the cpu and ram etc...Just start with the VERY basics...Cpu, mobo, and some ram with the graphics card in...i take it the board dosent have onboard video?

It's handy when you have spare hardware, but im assuming you dont have a spare cpu and graphics card lying around? :)

Start from there, and see how it goes. Post back with some updates etc.

Well it's working....

solved by:

Plugging it in after a 60 mile drive

However the problems don't end there. Riddled with spyware, malware and crushed down to no HDD space.....

Ta for the suggestions though guys :)
