If I do loads of these will it help get rid of the belly that I have developed? Its more of a food belly than a beer belly! i.e. spare tyre! I need to get rid of it!!

only very slightly, its not substitute for fat loss though.

its sort of like pulling the chords on a tent (working your abs) so that it goes really tight, it may help the shape slightly but if you put a thick blanket (fat... sorry ;)) over the top of the tent its not gonna make a huge difference.

(sorry for the bad analogy ;))
 
Nah. Cardio is the way forward for getting rid of the belly.

And by sit-ups I hope you mean crunches.. :p, sit-ups are nowt but trouble for your back.

Stupid question but whats the difference? i think I just call crunches sit ups? Is sit ups the stupid ones where people keep their legs straigt out on the floor?
 
Sit-ups are what most people call that exercise where you lift your entire upper body until it's almost touching your thighs. As I said, they aren't much kop for your abs and can harm your back.

With crunches you are only lifting your upper back off the floor. The whole point of the exercise is while you're bringing yourself up (using your abs, not your arms or whatever ;)) you tense your abs as hard as you can. If you don't know how to tense your abs, imagine you are trying to put a dent in the floor with your lower back, it's the same thing.

Do 3 sets of 10 and you'll feel the burn if you are doing them correctly, trust me. ;)

As I said though, if you are looking to get a tummy for the summer you have to burn the fat off as well. By all means do crunches in conjunction with cardio (your abs will still be developing under the layer of fat, you just won't see them) but be patient.. it'll take a bit of time.
 
they will do literally nothing for losing belly fat.

the only way to get your abs showing or to lose that belly is to exercise, diet and burn fat off.
bf% is what you want lowered. 10% and below will show off your abs excellently, tho 10% is a hard target for most people in most lifestyles

Nope. You'll have strong abdominals under the beer belly. You could have the strongest abs in the world but you wont see them under the fat, unless you remove the fat ;)
