Hi all!

I recently switched from Hostgator to TSOHost due to several recommendations from people on here. So far it's been great! However yesterday my site become very slow, as in can't even load the ACP slow!

TSOHost have said it's the setup of my Wordpress install. My argument is that it's been fine up and until yesterday, and nothing has changed content or settings wise.

They have told me to install WP Super Cache plugin, yet this has made little difference.

It's so slow to load it's unbearable and they are still saying it's nothing at their end at fault.

Anybody have any ideas? How is it loading for you?

What server are you running it on?

I've recently had several WordPress sites running very slowly and it was an issue between WordPress and ModSecurity.

I think it's a problem with your host because it takes 20 seconds to load a static png image which takes your php/mysql out of the equation.

And assuming it's shared hosting the server itself is super slow: http://host51.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk

Where as http://host50.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk and http://host52.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk loads right away.

That all makes sense. Atm I can hardly login to the ACP of wordpress to change settings. TSOHost have apparently done extensive tests and have ruled out anything their end. Ruled out the config of my site but have said it's the theme.

Ive contacted the theme creator and he said it's either host or a plugin issue.

It's CPanel hosting, so it's Linux based? It's shared though. PHP 7.1.2, MySQL 5.6.35 - Linux

Even if I disable plugins etc it's the same.

:(

OK, it would be worth investigating if ModSecurity is enabled.

It took me over a week of pulling everything apart to finally get to the bottom of what was causing the problem. Had another site too that was slow, turned off ModSecurity in EasyApache and bingo, problems were all gone. Like you it happened just all of a sudden out of nowhere.

Me being a novice, how would I check this fella?

Ive also raised the ticket again with TSOHost. Stating the very valid point Kwerk bought up.

http://host50.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk http://host52.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk

They both load instantly when doing a Pingdom test. However my shared service from time to time takes 30-40 secs to load.

http://host51.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk

Also when that tests slow, my site is also slow. When it tests fast/normal, then my site is running as normal. It's a very hit and miss problem....

Do you have cPanel access and the ability to change the Apache configuration?

Regardless of images loading and the speed of that, there was a conflict with WP and ModSecurity for me at a basic level and it was griding everything to a halt.

I do indeed have CPanel access. Only thing I see Apache wise in CP is "Apache Handlers"?

Apache handlers control how the Apache web server software manages certain file types and extensions for your site. Apache comes configured to handle CGI scripts and server-parsed files. You can configure Apache to handle a new file type with an existing handler by manually adding the handler and extension below. For example, to have the server treat files with the extension .example as CGI files, you would type “cgi-script” under Handler and “.example” under Extension(s).

Quick update.

My message.
I have re opened this ticket due so more info bought forward.

I am still having issues with my site. Yes changing the theme does indeed make things better, however the problem is still very much there! Ive been testing through out the day and have the same intermittent issues with or without theme change.

I have contacted the creator of the theme and they are saying there are no external attributes causing an issue. And the theme is not causing any issue.

They then go on to say it's more than likely either a hosting or plugin issue. On my end ive tried all plugins disabled and widgets. Change of theme does help but issue is still there. And of course tried cache plugins etc etc etc. All make no real difference.

It leads me to believe it is indeed an issue with my shared hosting service.

Please test these two URL's with a Pingdom test.

http://host50.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk http://host52.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk

They both loaded almost instantly.... 638 ms and 728 ms

Now please check the shared hosting server I am on, which is this.

http://host51.servers.prgn.misp.co.uk

That one is taking Pingdom upto 30/40 seconds just to load it. Which is the shared service I am on. It also goes hand in hand with my website. If I get a good fast test on pingdom from that URL, my site also loads fast and as normal. If it tests slow, my site is also slow.

However! This only happens from time to time. Sometimes it loads great, sometimes it load very slow!

Hence why I think I also have a big performance issue. Then it will go back to loading slow. Please can you investigate further. As at this time I am stuck. Failing this, try and change me to a different shared server? I didn't use the free migration offer when I signed up, so if you could use that up and switch me in house to a different shared server hopefully that solves my issue.

TSOHost reply.
Okay I think the best course of action in this case is to move you to another cPanel server. I am escalating the ticket to our migrations team who will; handle the migration for you and update you once it is done. Please bear in mind that if you have any email accounts under your package, you will need to change the server settings for any email clients you are using. Please bear with us!

I guess they have now done the same as Kwerk and found an issue. Can't really knock their support at this stage tbh, only the fact that they should have done what Kwerk done to find the issue. But then again, it is a intermittent issue.
