Very early stage.

Here, we're working with ideas with layout, colour scheme etc...

Excuse the poor work on the logo. Only had the JPG to work with as the dude who made the logo hasn't uploaded the PNG/PSD yet.

The working site will likely be of a larger dimension so things will be better placed.

Think the tab buttons should end with a straight line, like the other borders. You're using straight borders, curved borders and with the tabs, slanted borders, too much. Having straight sided borders will fit into the bars they are contained in.

Strongly dislike the font used in the headers/tab buttons.

Any suggestions? The more reserved, traditional fonts just didn't seem to fit.

Hmm, good call. Thanks.

To me that seems a mish-mash of two different designs and styles.

The logo, tabs and colours seems very lively, active and eye catching. The background and right hand grandient is very corporate to the point of being dull. It's a bit disjointed IMO.

Also, I think the first font was better, but still not quite right.

What's the site going to be for?

When it comes to web design I seriously recommend Steve Krug's "Don't Make Me Think", for some more usability tips see conversion rate optimisation.

Think Deviantart but with Music and Literature too. Also with a few facebook style elements.

Ah, OK. Will work on that then. Maybe a new colour scheme.

Here's a possible profile page.

You have a high contrast scheme, i.e. dark background, light bright text and buttons, so that's good.

With the buttons, the current green, orange, yellow, that's fine, but is each colour tied in with a particular aspect, e.g. music. I'd just say be careful to keep consistent with your colour designations.

Some of the section headings could be a bit bolder too, I guess this comes down to font choice too.

Yeah, the colours are designated to categories. We'll sort out which is which when we're closer to completion.

The Venn diagram on the front page is going to be part of a search system.

Clicking a section will search Music, Literature or Art. Clicking an intersection will Search two categories and clicking the centre will search all categories. :)

Personally I would be quite cautious about using novel search interfaces, again reading the "Don't Make Me Think" book is a good idea. I would use a conventional interface, and use the top part of the page for showcasing latest additions to the site.

Skip - in the original layout, just to the left of where it says facebook connect there is a square corner, this really should curve like all the others as it looks completely out of place as it is.

Other than that it's a nice interesting design :)
