Site redesign

I like it. (and I'm a pro web guy)

Only thing I'd do is remove the + that appears when you hover on images, it's irritating and you can't actually click it anyway.

Perhaps could use a close button in the top-right corner to close an image once you've opened it - although you can click anywhere it's not obvious.

I did not see the "x" to close the image. For some reason, I looked top-right and thought "oh, there is no close button ... maybe if I click the image? no ... err ... lets click outside the image ...".

A red "x" might be more distinctive ...

Nice (and I'm also a pro web guy :p)

A couple of suggestions, however:

  • Prev/Next navigation in the lightbox.
  • More consideration for mobile users with your contact/resume/social buttons. At the moment they're too small and packed together; at least, they are on my mobile. So give them greater affordance. You can use media queries to target mobile devices.

Must be good being a gradute artist?!

I have some proficiency in a few different areas (I like to think) but I struggle with how to sell myself, I actually graduated in 09 with a game degree but never thought I was good enough to land professional employment, just decided to pick it back up last few months after a year and a half in an irrelevant dead end job.

I want to make a portfolio that really shines (even if employers are not interested). Glad you guys like the design.

I was referring to the fact you spelt it gradute on your site! :D

In all seriousness though, it is a nice site design and your work is good :)

It's really nice, but 2 minor things I noticed:

Small black bar at the very top of the page, not sure if it's on purpose or not. Don't really see the point in it.
The Contact and Resume buttons below Andy Hook have text cut off at the top.

Is drawing just a natural gift or something you have to work on? I really want to draw but I suck. :'( It hurts me inside. :(

I personally started very young and kept going throughout school and college, i'm nowhere near of the level I wish I was.

Take a look at the first and last pages of this thread and look at the dates, if you work hard enough anyone can be good at anything in my opinion.
