Is it worth creating a sitemap with Google?

Am I likely to notice much difference in terms of search results etc?

Cheers.

Nah, a site map is a basic layout of a site. Kinda like an organisation chart, so users can quickly navigate through the site, or view the site and all it's different areas on the one page.
I really don't see the need for one, unless your building a big e-commerce site that's got a lot on it. They're really no use when it comes to small personal sites.

I use them and yes, it seems to have helped Google index all of my pages more effectively. I don't think it improves your ranking, it just helps Google get to the pages in the first place. Even the smallest of things that aid Google when it's on your site, is beneficial.

Like iCraig says, they can make it easier for spiders to find all of the pages within your website as well as being a useful list of contents for users. This is reflected by the fact that google now allow you to submit a sitemap to them to help them crawl for content.
