Just come back from a week long trip to Europe, self supported, to cover six countries in six days.

Set off from Beverley in East Yorkshire, near Hull on the overnight ferry to Rotterdam.

England (Hull)
Netherlands (Rotterdam)
Belgium (Kasterlee)
Germany (Aachen)
Luxembourg (Troisvierges)
France (Givet)
(Return through Belgium (Dinant), Netherlands, ferry back to Hull).

I took my Lapierre Pulsium 600 FDJ DISC road bike, but this would have been easily achievable on a gravel bike too, even XC MTB. Total weight of bike plus kit was 14kgs. It rained, every day, although usually in the afternoon. Covered on average 100km a day.

I also took my Durston X-Mid Pro 2, a two man tent, but only slightly larger packed size than the one man. Add to this a superlight air mattress, pillow and Sea to Summit sleeping bag, I was toasty warm and dry every night. Camped at campsites throughout each of the locations.

The route (minus the Hull to Beverley part)

We came across an old railway track which was over 130km in length (and moderately flat). The general vibe towards cyclists in Europe is a real eye opener, and the infrastructure is absolute next level.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyed this, despite the weather, and would highly recommend.

Chapeau!

Don't live far from Hull myself and this is a bloody great idea. Congrats. Be nice to see more pictures of you have any.

Edit: How much was the ferry in total including the bike?

Looks like a great ride!

Any mechanicals?
Two punctures on my bike two days apart, but sealant did the trick both times. One happened going pretty steady pace, around 30km/h and I suddenly started getting a wet leg. Slowed down to expedite the coagulant and then stopped fully to wipe off all the lost sealant before it became like porridge on my frame and wheels :D

Also, just googled your tent, how much!?! :D
I can get a nice 2 man fishing bivvy for that!
Very much an investment. It is honestly a complete game changer. How Dan designed this, off centre pole with storage is cracking. There are cheaper versions by Durston, but I needed light and small.

Awesome!

What poles did you use for your tent?

I've got the 'winter' edition, and would be nice to use with the bike :)

I picked up the Durston Z Flick poles. As this is actually a pole trekker tent, but I don't have any walking poles, so Z flick ones which are carbon and can fold down to about 20cm in length.

Chapeau!

We split the cost of the Ferry. Return plus at least two of the nights camping pre-booked worked out at £250 each

14kg, nice!

Sounds like a blast. What was some good experiences of the positivity from motorists?
Zero issues with motorists, just a different mindset especially in Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Even massive trucks when we had a 20km drag along an N route, there were no issues.
