Size of 'things' on 24" LCD (desktop icons etc)

I'm currently using a 19" CRT at 1280x1024, the reason for the resolution choice (opposed to 1600x1200) is that at the higher resolution I find things like desktop icons, the start bar and buttons in applications get far too small for me to see comfortably.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a 24" LCD but was wondering what the relative 'size' of screen objects would be.

Obviously the vertical res of the 1920x1200 LCD is the same, but there is probably 4" of extra vertical desktop space to fill with the same number of pixels. So I'm hoping it would make things appear larger.

Anyone have any experience? Thanks :)

Don't think the icons will be any larger, but going from a CRT to a TFT should make things a lot sharper so you might find it easier.

I went from a 21" Iiyama CRT with a native res of 1600x1200 (which I found too blurry) to a 2405FPW with a native res of 1920x1200 and found it easier to use.

Cheers, I imagine it will be fine - especially with the extra sharpness.

Never liked the look of the super large fonts etc, everything looked a bit fake,

Only thing now is to choose which 24" beast to get :)

Can't go wrong with the 2407WFP imo. I had the 2405 myself (model before it) and have now gone to the 30" and in some ways I regret it - it's a lot harder to read the screen at 2560x1600 than 1920x1200. :(

OT really, but your CRT monitor should be set at 1280x960 shouldn't it? 1280x1024 is 5:4 and the monitor will be 4:3
You're right.. that's a classic argument. :)

Personally, I'm in the 1280x1024 camp - I think it just looks better :)

hehe - never realised that

Although I do prefer the 5:4, being a coder its all about the vertical res component :)
