I've been out the hardware market for a while so I was wondering if someone could explain this for me.

Whats the advantage of having more ram, and what's the advantages of having faster ram?

I'm thinking of upgrading my memory but I'm in no real rush so I was just having a gander at what's on offer currently. Am I right in thinking that more ram is immportant if you've got many simultaneous programs on the go, but if you've only got a few then speed is more important?

And finally, whats the current trend atm with regards to memory; size and speed wise, and are there going to be any changes within the next few months?

Thanks.

As long as the ram is about 667-800MHz (5300-6400) you won't really notice the difference with anything faster except in benchmarks, just get more, rather than faster. 4GB at 800MHz should be enough for pretty much anything, and it isnt expensive at the moment. I think DDR3 ram will be phased in over the coming year or so, but i don't think it is worth waiting for really.
