I have acquired an old but mint SK43G barebones to add to my 2 SD37P2's.

What should I put in it ?

At the moment I have an old 30Gig IDE WD HD, SATA DVD R/W, 800Mhz Duron, SB Live and try not to laugh please, a Hercules GeForce II GTS!! (This cost a small fortune when I bought it)

I'm looking to get the wee beastie as fast as the 200w PS can handle but within a reasonable budget and the components must be aesthetically pleasing as I have started to collect Shuttles and like to show them off a little.

which 200w is it?

If i remember the Enhance one was a pile of crap that had trouble with the bigger loads, however the Achme one is the one that will power pretty much anything as Steeps said :)

whats your budget?

cheep gfx to look for ati 9700/9800/x800 nvidia 7600/6800
cheep cpus athlon xp 2000+ and above are cheep cheep
pretty 2gb ram kits seem to go for like £40 it seems.

no sata on that mobo so 500gb hdds are the biggest you can find easily.
think agp runs at x4 on that unit (no big deal tbh)
think fsb runs at 166 max so pc2700 native
think the fastest cpu it supports is the barton 3000+ (not the 200fsb edition)
think it supports 1gb ram modues but not sure
dont think gfx cards like the agp x1950pro/3850/7800/7900/7950 would work

pci slot.. a sound card or tv card. maybe a tbase1000 network card if you want to use it for streeming video over a network or a physics card for a laff ;)

Cheers for the advice and ideas. :)

I haven't really got a budget although a lot of stuff will have to come 2nd hand due to the age, it's just a little side project to kick start my collection of Shuttles.

It's got one Sata lead in the box and the manual suggests it has 2 Sata Ports so I shall test it with some old Raptors see if they work OK.

Still a bit undecided on the spec but there is some nice Geil DDR knocking about.

1950's seem to be commanding a good price on auction sites, any guesses as to whether the 3850 or 3650's will work with it, the AGP spec is 1.5V? I used to have a 7600GT OC and was unimpressed with the noise it made when wound up.

Will post back when spec is sorted out.

For aesthetics you could look at getting a second hand Shuttle CR40 optical drive if you don't plan to stealth it. Pictures

If look at second hand market or old inventory sites you can also replace the front plastic with various coloured versions, or backlite face. I'd probably go with a transparent front (can either remove the colour band off existing front or buy a pre done one) and put a picture behind it.

I love the coloured panels :)

Can't find one of those DVD Drives anywhere :( shall keep hunting.

The PS is the Achme one so some good news!!

I have of these with an ATI 9800 Pro. AMD XP3000, 2G of generic ram, a dvd-rw, and a 300G ide drive. Its rock solid under windows, but the USB is flakey under Linux (crappy VIA chipset).
I'd recommend a different fan for the ICE heatsink, as the default is pretty noisy, and you should be able to put a passive heatsink on the chipset (i'm using a Zalman ZM-NB47J).
