So Saturday was the Hub festival. It was mostly overcast, rained, and then was too hot. It was also full of kids. So 300 images later and I just wasn't really feeling like I'd captured the event. Still I got a few images I was happy with.

Multi Purpose Chemical. Great band to see live, so much energy.

Then Sunday was the Southport Street Festival. Its kinda like the one I go to in Liverpool except without the hideous fencing, which was great.

Dreamspace is that thing in the news, the one that took off. Its amazing inside and such a shame to see its destroyed.

I love the first southport photo, it has such a surreal almost paint like quality....

Yeah I love that so much. You wouldn't think its Southport, its like some European capital or something.

6 and dreamspace do it for me. all have great use of colour (or lack thereof) and lovely smooth edges.

i see what you mean about the hub. personally, i'd have taken them on a faster shutter and a wider aperture as they're not really drawing me into the trick as much as they should. the focus is on the rider and the board/bike, the rider and the motion are pretty irrelevant. problem with a stills camera, you have to get it so perfect or it just doesn't come off. there's so much to take into consideration, as they're constantly flinging bikes about everywhere!!

I didn't really think of changing the aperture. I was at last years event and I didn't really like the shots because they were too busy, so this year I planned for f/2.8 :) I've also been recently inspired by a photographer who I met in Toronto who does *amazing* panning shots on the streets of Toronto. So I was trying to do panning shots to kinda capture the craziness of their jumping.

Not keen on the shots from the Hub but the Southport ones are all very good, especially, as already mentioned, number 6. The sunset picture (11) is also brilliant :)

Yeah best I could get really. Its just not possible to get a decent angle and I just wasn't feeling it on the day. I'm happy enough with the results though.

Sweet. May I ask exactly how you hdr'd it? It seems as though this shot would have been taken at one exposure, so did you alter the exposure in post to get the three images, and make the hdr from those?

I did. Three shots from one image at -2, 0, +2.

Only because you got the art center in the background...had it been Asda or a bunch of tramps the true reality of Southport would have been revealed :D

Haha. Maybe so :) Still, better than Liverpool's one.

Cykey, that dreamscape thing, is that the thing you were tking photos of last year, the day before the ships were in?

Andy

It was a very very small version last year. I was really disapointed.
