Anyone been scammed by Skills Train, one of my mates has just canceled and another mate is half way through it. Doing some kind of I.T course. My mate set up a hate Skills Train group on facebook and got a letter through his door today, saying hes being sued . Just wondered if any of you have had the same problem or any advice for a friend.

Cheers :D

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Honestly, I signed up to a CCNA course with these muppets, Paid £50 deposit, Wanted to start the course so i tried to contact my so called "tutor" couldn't get anywhere, Emails being bounced, Phone calls being dropped or passed around & people going huh?

They tried to charge me £2,000, I wouldn't pay up so they tried to take me to court but it got dropped before it even got to court & I didn't have to pay a penny. No effect to my credit rating either.

My advice keep away from these cowboys.

How did your buddies get scammed? :)

Yeah from what my mate told me its doing his head in. But I was thinking i don't know if it is possible but get the backing of loads of people and trying to take these fools out! When my friend made the facebook group loads of people joined within days. But then again people have probably thought of this before lol

People that are desperate don't look into things sensibly, I am working part time in a kitchen while I an going to college to do a plumbing course for £1k, a chef at work is doing one at training site for £8k, he said hes guaranteed a job in the plumbing trade or his money back :S

Seems a big ask to give back £8k after paying for materials and teachers for a year +

Ok I might be able to help your friend out here.

What course is your friend doing? When did he sign up? Who was the finance for his course with? (Because for most people it’s either with Barclay’s or Career Development Finance)

What kinds of problems is he having? And When did the problems start?

And has your friend thought about contacting places like;
Office of Fair Trading
http://www.oft.gov.uk/contactus
Trading Standards Luton (Where Skillstrain are located)
http://www.luton.gov.uk/internet/references/contactus.html
Companies Investigation Branch (Skillstrain's Registration Number is Z5103695)
http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/complaintformcib.htm
etc, because these places will be able to help.

If he does get taken to court he will need to print out some of the posts on other forums to prove that he wasn’t the only Skillstrain student that was poorly treated.

A good to place to start would be the digital trends Scheidegger\Skillstrain thread which has been going since 2006. The thread is rather long but it has the most detailed information about Skillstrain.

Also he could use this post from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau for his case aswell.

Do you have a link to the Facebook group? that he created because I would like to see it.

Also you could get your friend to sign this petition to get them investigated by Gordon Brown. It’s not just for Skillstrain it’s for ALL training providers. (As you will notice on the first page of the digital trends thread)

About 3 years ago i went to the skillstrian site to find some prices for A+ N+ and MSCE, they didnt have any so i filled out a form hoping they would email me or call me with price. But they didn't they called to say someone is coming round to discuss the course.

A few days later a rep came round, he talked about what they do and all that, really selling it. Then came the price close to 4 grand  and before i could think about it, he had all the papers in front of me ready to sign.

I told him i couldn't afford that as i was only working part-time then, don't worry we can sort out some finance and you wont have to pay intrest he said. That sounded ok it was £75 a month for 3 years and a £45 deposit. I set it all up, he left me some starter kit and his number if i needed to contact him about anything else and left.

For the rest of the night i couldn't sleep thinking what have i done thats so much money i can't afford this, and by the morning i made my mind up to cancel.

I gave the fella a call but there was no answer, then 3 more times throughout the morning still no answer. I gave skillstrain a call and explained i couldn't really afford it anf that i couldn't get hold of the rep to tell him. They were really friendly and said i just had to send back my starter kit(at my expence) and contact the finance company and cancel.

So i did all that and got it cancelled. I know its not as bad as some peoples experiences and it could have been worse if i left it longer to cancel, but i felt they rep was pushing me into signing up, and i was £45 out of pocket as i never got my deposit back.
