Skipped a red light by mistake.

Just skipped a red light by mistake. It was dark, and it was a temporary lights system for road works. I was coming back from the Hospital, as my mum was admitted last night, and I wasn’t concentrating correctly. By the time I’d seen the light it was too late.

The guy in the car waiting to go as his side was green looked very angry. I didn’t skip on purpose, but I feel bad, as I’ve looked like a bad driver and I don’t like cutting or upsetting other drivers.

I never had the chance to put my hand up and say sorry, it all happened, and he just zoomed past me flashing his lights blinding me, understandable really. Hmm.. Perhaps I shouldn’t have been driving. Oh well. No harm done, other then pride and coming off as an arse to another driver.

No you shouldn't of been driving. You must drive perfect at all times, like an android.

Mistakes like these are unacceptable, cut your driving license in half.

Scum.

Are you joking with me, or do you think for sure as my mind was wondering a little I shouldn't have been driving? It did wake me up though, and afterwards I was back to the normal sharp looking out etc driving we need to adhere to..

Sorry, but that is just rubbish.

I've been driving 5 years which I admit isn't exactly a lifetime, but how you can condone saying skipping through a red light as an easy to make mistake is beyond me.

If you're not capable of seeing a red bulb lit up in your face, I dread to think what your awareness of objects harder to view such as motorcycles and pedestrians is like.

How anyone can play down skipping a red light as trivial is beyond me. It's not clever at all, in fact it's bloody stupid. If someone has skipped a light intentionally they really need to think about how much they value the life of them and others. If someone has skipped a light accidentally they need to think about ways to dramatically improve their awareness.

Ok,

When I posted this, I was a little upset, not thinking totally straight but the fact I missed the red light was due to the way the workers had set the system up. I have no photographic evidence to support this, but they had a truck, with enough lights to light up the starship enterprise, with a large arrow pointing down. Then just as I passed this, I then noticed the red light.

It was a totally insane traffic system, and the road workers needed to get it sorted out, as it was in fact dangerous. The red light should have bee further forward, with a sign saying “wait here”. There was nothing of the sort to show traffic control. Totally ridiculous, I should have explained this when I made the post.

I also did miss the sarcasm at first, but now I know he was just saying – oh wow, one red light, big deal.

But at the same point I was upset that I’d ended up antagonising someone as I failed to see a red light due to a poor traffic set up, and that I never got the chance to say sorry or explain why I’d done it. And I was upset that my mum was in hospital.

Next time, I’ll make sure I record my journeys, and if I as much as even sneeze at the wheel, I’ll stop my car and throw my keys away. The video can then be used to prove I stopped to ensure I was of no more danger to any other road users.
