did a search, no rexults so here is my SKITTLES VODKA thread!

Heard about this a while ago, making some now. Just done my first bag of skittles for my 35cl vodka. Smelling pretty good right now, im just changing from a plastic water bottle to a big glass one, so using boiling water to sterilise / clean and remove fat from the skittles.

Anybody else tried this?

Eurgh, this fat is horrid, i just transferred to a glass bottle. This is not whimpy alcopops, this is not watered down, its just nicer tasting vodka.

when i shake it in the bottle, it looks more like a syrup. It has also doubled in volume from 35cl to about 70! so i guess it wont be 40% anymore.

for a 35cl bottle of nasty waitrose vodka, i used a grand total of 510g of skittles, and they all dissolved.

That was 1 x 180g of normal skittles
6 x 55g of sour skittles

takes a whole lot o' the little buggers, but now i resembles watery jam.

should be good

I had completely forgotten about pictures, so here are a couple:

long shot of the bottle, 1.5L, so i guess it is now about 70cl

This is the vegetable fat scum. Pretty nasty.

Holy Thread revival Batman!

I thought this thread of mine was long gone, but my litre of skittles vodka has been settling for about a month or so. It seems to make it taste better, my original batch i had half right after it was done and the rest after about a month, and it seemed to be less harsh after the time had passed, so with this batch (70ml vodka, 720g skittles) which is about a litre now, ive been leaving it for after exams. I will try and get a good picture up later.

so delta (or anybody thats had a success with this) , fancy making a good detailed guide for us novices!

i've got a party next saturday and i'm thinking bout making some for it

Well, this is what i have done to make 1 litre of skittles vodka:

Ingredients:
70ml of vodka, doent need to be great
900g of skittles, i used 5 bags of 180g

You will need:
Glass bottle with over 1 litre capacity
big bowl
sieve or a spoon
funnel

Instructions:
1. Pour all the vodka into the large glass bottle.
2. Empty all the skittles into the bowl.
3. Take out all of the green skittles (they make it go horrible)
4. Pour the rest of the skittles into the bottle with the vodka. should be about 720g left in the bowl.
5. screw up the bottle really tightly.
6. Leave until the skittles have completely dissolved.
7. You may shake the bottle to help the skittles dissolve, whortens making time by a while.
8. Once all the skittles have dissolved you will have a thick layer of 'scum' on the top of the liquid. It looks like it is lots of little bits, looks cool when you shake it up and watch it go back to the top. This scum is the saturated vegetable fat that was in the skittles.
9. Pour the contents of the bottle into the large bowl through the sieve (if you have one).
10. If you dont have a sieve then use a spoon to skim off the top layer os scum until you are happy with the result.
11. Wash out the bottle.
12. Pour the contents of the bowl back ito the bottle.

This is now skittles vodka.

It will taste better the longer you leave it in the bottle, but is still nice without leaving it.

Here is a pic of my first attempt, only 35ml used then. This is before skimming, and soon after it was made, 3 days i think.

This is my new one, used 70ml in this one, i think it is about 1 litre now with all the extra skittles i bunged in there, they all dissolved. This is after a month. Notice the colour change from the last one, this happens slowly over the month period. As for when you should remove the fat, i removed it from this one after about a week.

And a shot glass after some of the stuff:

how many times u recommend it be filtered? im guessing coffee filter paper is the best bet for filtering?

I tried using coffee filters with my first attempt, but it was extremely slow at going through, i think it is because it is a sugary drink, the filter doesnt like the long chains, so i just poured it in and skimmed off the fat with a spoon.

So instead of using a filter, use a sieve or a spoon, and keep going until you dont have any scum left.

My mate says that the fat is the best bit. He is convinced that it holds all the alcohol. But that is wrong. I tried a bit of it and i thought it was nasty, just greasy and non alcoholic. Tastes much nicer without the scum. So yeah, just keep going until there is none left.

Yet another revival for my skittles vodka thread.

I'm so proud.

I still have quite a bit of the 70cl left for consumption here at home.

Glad to see my thread rise from the dead again.

Going to make another batch which i plan to have ready for the first term back at uni.

So you think i should remove the fat then? Or leave?

I cant see any more skittles, will leaving the fat in give it more taste or anything?

I havent tried testing what difference the length of time you leave the fat in does to the taste, but leaving the skittles vodka for about a month does make it taste a bit nicer, bit less of a kick from the vodka in it, makes it a bit mellower.

I dont think that whether you take the fat out at the beginning or the end will make much difference, but if you leave it until the end, then you cant just decide on the spur of the moment to have a few shots, you would have to sit there skimming out fat. I left the fat in mine for about a week.

Wahey, my thread has gotten some stars.

I really didn't expect this one to be revived AGAIN.

I really need to make some more flavoured vodka. I found that 2 shots of skittles vodka in a pint of cider is delicious, but half an hour after having two of them it goes straight to your head, made me go dizzy and really drunk. Should do it with a bit more moderation next time.

supermarkets own meths ive used both and by the time the skittles have worked their magic you cant tell the difference

another vote for store brand vodka, after all the flavours you put in you cant tell the difference.

Finally making some more flavoured vodka. Making Glacier Mints vodka this time. Thought i would have a change from the usual skittles one i have made.

Making it in time for the end of my exams in a couple of weeks.

I have used about 50cl of vodka, and a bag of glacier mints. Will post a picture later.
