Hey guys, am looking at buying a 2018 octavia hatchback and was wondering about the catalytic converter and how accessible it is on these cars?

Anyone got a MK3 octavia hatchback and knows if it's nearer the engine or somewhere further back more easily accessed as might need a cat lock or similar in future if so given how widespread theft is in the London area lately!

How are the skodas maintenance wise too? I've not opted to buy yet but might well do! Don't do lots of long distance/motorway driving so the small engine isn't an issue.

It's direct from a skoda dealer with 12 months warranty and they're taking my old 2004 ford focus estate in part exchange which I'm glad about frankly as makes things easier on the whole!

Any thoughts appreciated!

won't you take fully comp insurance that would cover a cat theft (... or, concerned it would be an inferior 3rd party part)

are 12 month warranty terms identical to their as new warranty ? so would cover a turbo say, if you are planning lots of motorway miles.

It will be a manual then ? (and avoid their dry gearbox),

It's a manual yes and will be covered fully comp but I'd still rather avoid having to get it replaced if say a cat lock would do the job of scaring any would be thieves off!

If of course it's located nearer the engine block then that's less of an issue surely ... But I can't find any concrete info on where the cat is on this car!

Just new car new potential issues to stay ahead of is all - it sounds as though I've little to worry about in reality - it's not a hybrid no!

My issue is that it's got 4 different tyres on it so that'll need a nice set of 4 new ones soon enough - not sure how happy I'll be traveling about in completely mixed rubber!

why don't you get a newer focus estate - neighbours visitor this weekend has a 16 plate 1.0 with the nice grill,
after seeing autotrader 2nd hand values where octavia is a leader, not sure that corresponds to better value, and, is justified, it seems a cult.
Focus at that engine size has independant rear suspension too afaik.
can you get a newer/lowermpg focus for same money ? and ... avoid belts in oil.
