Skoda Superb alternatives?

I’ve currently got a 65 plate Superb 190 PS TDI hatch. Want rid as interior is rattly. No more Skoda for me.

I need something big that can tow a 1400 kg MTPLM caravan. Diesel as drive long distance to/from work each week, around 20K/year.

Don’t want SUV or 4WD. Budget £15K. Prefer saloon but estate or hatch not a show stopper.

Any suggestions, please?

I'm not convinced that you're going to get something massively better than a Superb for 15k unless it's a bit older which increases the chance of issues like you're currently getting.

What's rattly? If it's interior rattles then surely it's worth taking the interior apart and using some felt tape to try and deaden anything that might rattle?

It shouldn't be rattly. Got 3 skoda's in the family, and granted our 2005 Fabia is a bit rattly now, but it's an old car with high miles and not particularly cared for.

If you need something with better interior materials/refined then you'd be looking at the german alternatives, which for 15k will have to be older cars than what you have now.

I’m surprised and annoyed by this too. Really disappointing given the reviews these get. It is enormous and pulls like a train in 3rd/4th, etc. Very comfortable but the odd rattle really irk me. I’ve tried putting the radio on but I like doing my long commute in silence mostly and the noise can be intrusive for me.

like he said -
get someone to listen and localise the rattle -
3 series touring - I played with bump stops on boot latch for ages, & lubed the door seals, but, eventually, found wear on rear suspension top mounts,
even left a mobile recording in different areas of car to try and localise it.

I totally get this - they drive me mad as well. It's the most annoying thing in a car. The trouble is I can't see how you can guarantee avoiding it. Any better built car than the Skoda is likely going to be older than it for the money and even the best built cars in the world begin to develop trim rattles as they get older. Unfortunately as a car ages it's almost unavoidable - people who claim to drive a 20 year old Volvo without a single rattle are probably nothing like as sensitive to them as you or I..

I really think your best option is to try and fix the issues with your current car - or buy a much newer one. But this will be much more than £15k..

Don't think I've driven or been a passenger yet in an older used car which doesn't have a fair bit of squeaking/rattling :( especially some brands lately it seems the rubber around windows, etc. seems to dry out way too quickly.

Though I did manage, after the second attempt, to eliminate a vibration/rattle coming from the dashboard area on my truck after it was serviced after going to town on taking stuff apart and putting it back together. Thought I'd solved it only for it to come back a few miles later but second attempt seems to have sorted it. But the rear quarter panel windows I still need to sort as the rubber/padding has dried out significantly.

Speaker rattle/crackle annoys me far more than interior squeaks - unless it's from the seat belt mount/recoiler.
