Anyone else playing this these last couple of days?
I'm quite enjoying it, it's lacking any kind of sword or gunplay from you or your crew, but the ship combat is fun and had a great sense of atmosphere, stunning graphics and the sea shanties set the mood

Watched some of radbrads video last night and was not impressed by the ship combat, the canons are like rail guns.

(you can tell he is being paid for this video)

When you are playing they are not accurate and each canon type is different, long barrel, stubby, shrapnel etc, for sails , hull or crew damage so you have to aim while up and down in the waves and fired on. It's satisfying enough

Wow they really did just take the ship part of AC Black Flag and made another game with it.

I had high hopes for this game. But it is lacking sword fights and normal gunplay. Seems only ship combat. I'm disappointed
I do agree there, in black flag jumping off your ship to climb up on the enemies and pull their captain into the sea was a joy, and then killing the crew.

You also can't capture ships and make them your own. But. The game as it is, is still good, it's just not what people really wanted

Watching livestreams of the beta has completely changed my mind about this game. I think the rpg mechanics are really satisfying and there's a lot to do, obviously it looks and sounds great. I think they've done well to focus efforts to preserve and enhance the ship combat that was so loved in the assassin's creed game.

Played a few hours of the latest beta.

What I wanted - a good non comedy/cartoon pirate game

What I got - a fairly clunky, should be free-to-play game pretending to be a full price AAA title, with some huge development issues.

Why they couldnt/didnt make it full open world with exploration/land combat remains a mystery. Okay maybe its supposed to just be a naval combat game - fine but the "combat" is just basic point and click, even the reloading is done automatically. Ye you can upgrade weapons but its still just point and one button shoot.

The ships might as well be speed boats. One button to move from land to sea. One button for sails up and off you go. One button to slow or sails down. There is a wind direction but it makes no real difference other than a little bit slower or faster movement. No currents to manage etc, no sails management, just steer left or right then one button press to go moor up and go onto land.

The world looks great and there are loads of interesting looking island landmarks that you can see - but 90% of them are just decoration that you sail past.

Harvesting/crafting is what you would expect - just with a one button press timing mechanic to get more/better materials.

Gets old very quick

Huge missed opportunity.
