Sky (adsl) should I be getting better speeds?

I’ve had Sky for about a month and the speeds I’m getting now are the same as I had on the first day.

I’m getting approx. 5.2Mbps up and 0.4Mbps down, my predicted speeds were estimated at 7 - 14.3Mbps down and 0.8Mbps up.

The connection is rock solid and the speed does not vary with the time of the day so I don’t think it’s a contention issue.

My router is connected to the master socket, filters are fitted as they should be and it makes no difference whether I connect via Ethernet or wireless.

I’m not very knowledgeable in this area, perhaps one of the gurus on here can advise if I should I be getting better?

Thanks in advance :D

Thanks in advance :D

Well you had a reset on the BB connection 37 hours ago
Fairly high attenuation on the downstream and a lowish snr
But your upstream has room for improvement with a 19db snr you should see 800k up
Maybe do a router reboot, see if that helps
failing that you could either e-mail sky (best option in my opinion)or call and ask to have the line retrained or whatever they call it :)
either way i am jealous only getting 3meg and 736 here with a 60 db line

Hi thanks for your post. I rebooted the router 37 hours ago to see if it would improve my sync speed but it made no difference whatsoever. I should have mentioned that in my original post.

The connection is very stable and never drops the line, during the initial training period the uptime was 14 days before I restarted.

I'll give them a call and ask them to retrain the line as you suggested. I was expecting better considering the estimated speed I was given.

Cheers :D

Hi Guys,

Many thanks to all :)

I think the consensus is I'm not getting the speeds my line is capable of supporting. I didn't think about adsl versus adsl2 I just assumed Sky would put me on adsl2 automatically. I did check my exchange is LLU before subscribing.

I don't think there is anything I can do at my end so I guess the ball is in Sky's court. I'll give then a call later when I get home and mention in partcular that I should be getting adsl2.

Thanks again.....I will report back :D

They should've automatically put you on an ADSL2+ LLU profile. I'm with Sky on an LLU package too. :)

By the looks of it they have accidentally put you on an ADSL (up to 8Mb profile).

Thanks for your input, I wont get the opportunity to call Sky from the landline where the service is provided until tomorrow evening. I have taken onboard the advice and opinions from all posts and will report back :)
