sky + and broadband nightmare

Finally getting somewhere!!! Ripped off th BT master socket and fitted a new one.My stats are now the same with sky plugged in or not.Phoned my isp and they said the line attenuation should ideally be below 43db for my 2mb line speed.they said the distance from the exchange is the likely cause for it being so high and recomended downgrading me to 1mb,but I`m going to stick with it for a few days and see how things go.At least now I can plug in sky and not worry about them wanting to fleece me!Pitty my isp or BT couldn`t have suggested for me to check my stats three weeks ago and saved me a lot of frustration and ££££££s!
Thanks for your input guys.I will see how things go over the next few days and let you know

It needs to be connected all the time? Don't you just get an on screen warning when it wants to talk to the mothership?

if you are still having problems email me your tele no. and i will test it for you

well, four days of tinkering and trying different ideas and still no joy.
sky+ seems to be in most part to blame for the line sync drops.
thanks wombatwilson for testing my line for me any ideas on improving my line stats would be most welcome

quick update.
line still playing up, but sky have offered to replace my +box.
they're coming wednesday. I'll update if any improvement.

Don't get your hopes up too high jonph.

We had an enginneer out to swap our box over, we tried 3 erm..i think its a samsung box and 2 amstrad boxes, all had the same effect :S

I'll mention to the engineer when he comes out that sky should look into this line noise problem, because if its a choice between sky and good internet connectivity, sky will have to go!!!

New sky+ box fitted this morning and I did get a slight improvement on the snr margin(only about 6db)so still reading below 10db.He put an active adsl filter(thought they were all the same!!) on the sky box and this improved things a little more(up to 14db!).He was very helpfull and took the time to explain how other cables running too close to the phone line could also cause line noise,so I set to work making sure there were no cables touching the phone line.I had a filter pump for my fish tank sitting directly behind my phone point so I moved that.I've now got 18db. Still a bit low me thinks but at least for now I've got line sync again.Sky is still causing some noise,I get 28db with sky+ box unplugged.
One other point. It rained last night and my line attenuation went from 46db to 56db and is still there. Is it worth hassling BT again to check for a possible external line fault? What should average/good line stats read?
