been trying to install sky bb on a friends pc today, there is a prob with the ethernet controller. Looked in my comp/properties/hardware/device manager etc and apparently there is no driver for it.
Is there anyway i can download the driver from the net using my pc on my connection and then transfer it to hers, either via disc or flashdrive ? and where would i find it?
ive limited experience with this so would appreciate any help in laymans terms.
Thanks

might be best to have a look inside the PC and get the name of it first.
If it's on the motherboard the big main circuit board) then do a search for the name of the motherboard and the ethernet controller should be in the list
something like "motherboardname drivers*

if it's in a PCI slot (one of the cards in the bottom left, perpendicular to the motherboard) then get the name from the circuit board and search for the drivers

ok, first things first, what operating system (what windows) is she using, and need to find out what type of network card she has (yes you can do what you're asking though :) )

is it an onboard network card, or one that is a seperate card

an onboard one will be near the mouse/keyboard/usb connectors

see this picture

onboard would be on that pale grey plate that is underneath the power supply

a seperate network card would be at the bottom end of the case (they're expantion slots basically)

if its an onboard one, then you can use a tool called cpu-z to find out what motherboard / chipset the pc has, and can then ask on here where to find the driver for it, the program opens up like this

cpu-z.JPG

you just need to click the 'motherboard' tab, and copy the info down for us

here's a download link to the program

http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-139.zip

unzip that, and put it on a flash card like you said, and run it on her pc, then you'll know what motherboard / chipset it has :)

(if its an expantion card one, then do as EirePlane said and open the case up to see what type it is)

OS is windows XP, its an onboard card, says PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_10508SUBSYS_019D1028&REC_02\4&IC660DD6&0&40F0...
hope ive got that right, as i said i dont know much about these things
She had a connection with talk talk up until last week, which was running fine, so i cant understand why it now wont :(
If i got it here would i be able to get it online with my connection? i'm thinking it would be easier than keep trekking half way across the county.

Cheers guys..
