We (my housemates and I) have had Sky BB for 6+ months now, and suddenly since last week our download connection speed has dropped from 3meg to 0.3meg. I've tried restarting the router a couple of times but it hasn't made any difference. As far as I know nothing obvious has changed, is this likely to be due to DLM?

Could be, but I think you'd have to provide more info before anyone could give a meaningful answer. E.g. what are you using to tell you your download speed, which Sky BB package are you on, what are your router stats (sync speed, noise margin etc.) and have they changed.

We're on sky max bb (also have tv and phone). I'm using the router to look at the speeds. Currently we've got 796 kbps upstream, and 381 kbps downstream (talking in terms of kilobits).

Our line stats from the router are as follows:
SNR Margin (Upstream) 11.0
SNR Margin (Downstream) 29.8
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 29.6
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 50.0

From what I remember when I looked before they don't seem to have changed much, but as I don't have an actual record I can't be sure.

We currently use a Billion 7800N router, which we've used for months and had no problems. Our connection speed was always ~3000kpbs download and ~700kbps upload until last week when it seemed to change. I was away last week so don't know for sure if anything in particular caused it but my housemates said they can't think of anything of note which could have lead to it.

Hope that helps.

looking at the snr margin, it definitely looks like the DLM has banded your connection. this would normally be due to errors on the line, or a number of line drops.

can you post your routers log?

I only have the log since the router was last restarted, which was at 5:30pm today. Still want me to post it up?

Erm...not sure it's really worth it to be honest. Was going to take a look and see how many line drops you'd had recently.

Sky should be able to tell you that though. Definitley worth giving them a ring to see what's going on.

Don't forget that it's in the Sky BB Ts&Cs to use their router (which I'm guessing the Billion isn't). It might be prudent to be using the one they supplied when you call them, and depending on who you speak to, be prepared to go through some basic scripts before you get to someone who can help.

I'll to delay ringing sky until Sunday as my housemate is the account holder and he is away until Sunday.

However last night the router disconnected (not due to us) and reconnected at 765kbps download, which is an improvement at least!

Also the noise margins have decreased slightly, they are now as follows:

SNR Margin(Upstream) 10.5
SNR Margin(Downstream) 25.9
