Sky, Be or o2

Thinking of switching to a different ISP and wanted some users thoughts on each of these companies.

Already have Sky+ TV, so getting the phone and broadband as well would keep things simple. And everything would be in one bill.

Then there's Be and o2 which I know are the same company, but I've seen a few posts from people complaining about the router provided by o2. So would it be worth paying a few extra pounds for Be (got an o2 contract) for a decent free router?

Cheers for any help. :)

Ive been on O2 (20meg) for about 6 months and have had no trouble whatsoever. The router that I got from them has been flawless.

Ive tried the wireless with my phone from about 20feet away and works ok.

I live in a flat so I cant get that far away :)

Thanks for the replies.

Just been reading around about the router some more that comes with the o2 package. And people have been complaining about connecting to other players in Company of Heroes. Which is a problem with the BT router as well. :(

maybe if you posted what router it is then ppl who own that router or have experience with it can shed more light on the situation.

personally i dont know crap so cant be much help soz

Good idea.

The post says the router is the 'O2 Speedtouch 780WL'. Is this the router that's still given away with o2? Anybody else have any problems with CoH?

sounds strange that company of heroes problem some post here suggest following this guide and you can then enter 95% of games.

Not sure what difference doing this is to actually opening up the ports on the router.

Cheers. I'll ask my friend who had problems with his BT router to try it out. As far as I remember it was something to do with DMZ(?) on the BT router, and there was nothing Relic could do about it.

Anybody on here play CoH already with this o2 router?

hey that just happens to be the same router ive got with BE.....never had any problems with wireless.
i have my ps3 and laptop connected through wireless and both work fine....ps3 is in same room and laptop is in the bedroom....signal is always very strong on max bars so never any kind of problems.

i have had overheating problems a few times which seems to be a common problem but mine hasnt been major as i just turned the modem on its back or side for a quick fix.

i do remember some problems with css which caused locking up the internet when playing a game even though you could carry on playing the game....just when you finished the comp needed restarting....a fix for this was posted which did work ....not sure if it was the official be forums or unofficial but it was 1 of the two

Best thing to do is to ditch the speedtouch and switch to a Netgear DG834GT with the DGTeam custom firmware. You can just buy a sky branded one from "an auction site" and then reflash it with the non-sky firmware.
