I have a old dell pc next to the tv for net access it connects wireless.

I want to connect my skybox up so i can use anytime +

can i hook my sky box to the computer via the lan port and use the wireless connection on the computer?

if so how can i do it ?

You can, but it's a bit of a faff. You'd need to set up internet connection sharing on the PC to allow devices connected to the LAN port access through the Wifi adapter.
There should be an official M$ technet article on doing so.

Might just be quicker and better to get a wireless access point,
Sky do one for £60 but any access point will work but will not be supported,

Here is one OC is selling not even £20

Wireless Access Point.

I think he's doing things the other way round, bridging wifi to wired not wired to wifi.

An AP would still work but it'd need to be a slightly more clever (and expensive) one that supports bridging.

Sounds to me more like he has a wireless pc and is wanting to connect the Sky box to this to save paying out for the Sky Access Point,
Now its quick and far less bother to get a wireless access point,
Connect the RJ45 from the Sky tv box to the AP then use the on screen menu to pick the network point and connect to it.

Can be up and running 2 mins after getting the AP.

Thats ok only if the 2 power sockets are on the same loop.
But if they are then yeah they are great.

Its a dam shame every room of my house has its own loop :-(

Small price to pay for not having to shut the whole house off to replace a light fitting or outlet faceplate :)
That's just the rarity of Electrics done properly.

Ha ha cant be that good of a job one of the sockets has made 2 psu's go bang within 3 weeks ( yes i am connected to a SurgeProtector )
One psu's was a few years old so thought that was the cause second one was less than 2 weeks old,
Not to say i will not be using that socket when i get my new rig lol

I assume you have Sky Broadband or it will not work anyway.

Some Sky boxes are not working to work with Sky Anytime+
But my understand is that Sky are contacting customers with these boxes and are offering a free sky access point and new box.

As for is only working on Sky broadband connections Sky are talking to other internet service providers at this point & fingers crossed it will be open to all networks.

oh right, we were basically told tough luck by sky and we might be able to get it in the next 12-18months.

just went to their site and the activate thing was there :) so i have placed the order. what happens now? the box has been wire up to the router for months, do i just wait 24/48hours and the box will do a magic overnight firmware update?

it took us mins...you do need to go on the box and make sure that it is configured for anytime+. unplug the cable and replug it in again. then when it asks you hit select to enable the network/broadband and it should be sorted...

ok will give it a go when i get home :)
better be good :p

it's a step forward in many ways, but maybe not all it's cracked up to be...
downloading something starts quickly and seems pretty rapid, but there isn't vast amounts of programmes like Sky make out to be!
