Hello all,

Our sky box keeps on asking us to order a new viewing card. I finally caved at these messages and went to the Sky site to go to get a replacement card and was shocked that they are asking for £20 for a new card. This seems like a lot to ask for a bit of plastic with a little chip in it. Do we have to pay this? Any way around it? What will happen if we don't get a new card?

Cheers.

They have been sending out new ones. I got mine a few weeks ago. they might be running behind. I would call them up instead of checking the site

Only if you are a customer of Sky. We stopped paying them as they wouldn't give us a free Sky+ box.

Would paying for a months worth of Sky get around this? Would rather pay £15 for a months worth of Sky.

Don't call them, Sky customer services can only send out cards for active paid subscription accounts, use the website, the card is free and should be with you within a few days.

Ah I didnt see a bit where they werent with sky anymore. appologies :)

It says: You are eligible for a free card if you:

* Purchased Freesat from Sky with a viewing card and a Sky box after 1st May 2004

We purchased Sky in 2003 IIRC. It stated it was £20, but I didn't go through the ordering process to see if it was payable.

You only lose about 5 channels, but if your like me then you watch them a lot. Im selling the box and just buying a proper aerial for my freeview, saves paying sky for something which should be free.

If I was to buy a Freesat box, would I need anything other than the connection to my Sky Dish? As we haven't used sky for about 3 years now, though the dish is still fully working, as we are using the freeview on it.

Thanks, Cas.
