Sky box EPG - how good is the information?

Hello,

I have just been looking at Sky's online TV guide and note that it is really very complete - all films have the year in brackets and TV shows all seem to have season and episode information.

Do you get the same level of detail with the EPG that you get on a Sky box?

Not in the EPG but the information box brought up by pressing the select button does hold this information, however once in a blue moon (I'm looking at you Discovery) season and episode information is incorrect which can throw the series link out and the order of the recordings is then incorrect.

Thanks very much for confirming that - it is useful to know that all that information is all there.

The reason I am asking is that I am currently using TVHeadend to do all my recording.

I use the London Sky HD bouquet for all my channels, but block out all those that are encrypted.

At present, I pay an annual subscription to Schedules Direct and download daily EPG data, which is really good quality and up-to-date.

However, it is messing up my system slightly - some of the channel names that Sky provide are not exactly the same as those from Schedules Direct (e.g. BBC One vs BBC 1) and I have to manually link them up. However, whenever I reboot my server, these changes seem to be lost and I have to link them all up again.

Given that the Sky EPG data seems to be such good quality, I am wondering whether I should switch to OTA grabbing (the grabber is called OpenTV).
