Sky+ box wont respond after update

After the recent update my sky box won't change channel or respond to the remote at all after several minutes of being turned on. I have to take the power cord out to turn the thing off or change channels.

I am shocked at the build quality of this sky+ box its been nothing but a pain ever since I got it and apparently its fairly common among the latest boxes.
 
Maybe the software didn't install properly.

Tried a forced software update.

Pull the power plug out the bacl of the box.

Now hold backup on the front of the box untill i say to stop

Plug the power cable back in

After a few seconds you will get a black and white "update" screen

let go of back up

After a few minutes it will re-download and install the latest software.
 
Tried that. Today ALL my recordings that worked flawlessly all say FAILED!

I am gonna call sky this weekend and I am not happy (payed £89 for this pos).
