Hi :)

Is a fully working Sky+ Box any use one you cancel the subscription? If so what can it do?

If not how much is it worth? :D

The old man has decided to give this Telewest Sky+ alternative a try as he's sick of the **** support from Sky and the charges / boxes breaking (Telewest don't charge for callouts and give you new boxes FOC apparently). Plus it works out £7 cheaper for the full package.

Cheers :)

You can use it as a standard digibox but you lose the pvr functions. Probably worth £20 or so on ebay as some folks will want em so they can have sky+ in two rooms. No doubt there's some dodgy hacks available for em though so if that's the case they would be worth more. A new sky+ box plus dish is only £89 at the moment so base any resale price on that.

Personally I'd keep it. If telewests digi boxes and services are anything like NTL's the the digital services button should be relabelled the crash button as it was just awful and guaranteed to lock up the box withing seconds of having pressed it :)

We're using a Sky+ box as a normal box (can't afford Movies or the + bit at the mo!!) and it sort of works!...

For some reason we can't set reminders (press Green) or Select stuff to go in our Planner as the box thinks we're trying to record (I'm not even pressing the R button) and gives us the Sky+ Phone number!... We even get this when we try to book from Box Office!... Problem whit that is Sky'll charge you £1 to book over the phone!!..

Trying to Phone 'Sky Tech' last weekend was a nightmare due to the fact most of em were still at home due to the Snow!..

ebay it. You'll get about £50-100 or so for it depending on model etc.

Is the £89 for existing subscribers? Also theres no dodgy hacks available- NDS encryption hasn't been cracked yet.

What are pvr functions sorry?

We've had nothing but trouble from Sky+ over the past 2years and getting bent over everytime a box ****s up or some fat gorrilla comes out to "take a look" is pathetic. I love Sky+ to bits I really do, but it's worth giving Telewest a try, looks better specced and no service charges / parts or replacement charges is a bonus. Surely they wouldn't offer that if the boxes were as dodgy as the previous telewest digital (yes we had that and yes it was ****!).

Really can't be bother re-routing the cabling from the lounge upstairs (i've looked at those channels you can get using an old card and they're a joke!) so does the box have any use on it's own? Long shot like but... Say the recording functions etc?

As said, sell it, its useless without a subscription really. They go for between £30-£80 from what ive seen.

Great system but rather expensive, i am thinking about ditching mine soon too unless they drop the £10 additional sub for the PVR functions.
