Sky Boxes

I don't know the REN figure for SKY boxes for sure but I had 2 phones, a normal SKY box and a Router on my phone line which worked well. I then got SKY+ installed and a couple of months later I got a nastygram from SKY telling me that my old SKY box was not connected and that I had to connect it as per the terms of the agreement or they would send the boys round...or something to that effect.

Of course it was plugged in and through a process of connecting the devices in various orders I found that 2 phones, 2 SKY boxes and a Router exceeded the REN number of my line. When everything was plugged in (regardless of the order I connected them) the old SKY box would fail to dial out. SKY were completely unhelpful and just maintained that it needed to connect periodically.

I could have just unplugged one device and forced a callback on my SKY box once a month but I wanted a permanent solution. We already had a cordless phone downstairs so in the end I resolved the problem by buying a handset and charger for upstairs that connected to the base downstairs. This reduced the number of devices to 4 (which I believe is the REN of my line and most UK lines) everything worked fine from there on in and not had any trouble since.

Not sure why you asked this question or even if you have a similar issue to the one I had but that was a long winded way of saying that from my experiences I deduced that the SKY boxes have a REN of 1.

At the time when I had the problem I found posts on some forums that suggested SKY boxes have a 1.5-2 REN figure but if this were true then two SKY boxes would be all you could connect to a standard UK line so I doubt that it is that high.

If you want a confirmed figure give SKY a call and ask them, they should be able to find this out for you.

Hope this helps.

Sky boxes have a Ren of 1.
99% of kit is 1 now however the master socket is 1.5 due to the capacitor and gas discharge tube.
Hope that helps
