I am completely useless at things like this so please excuse me, i had been having major problems with the router and the internet had completely died.

I did a bit of research and went out and bought a new router and extracted the user pass from the old one.

i brought it back plugged it in, went onto the router configuration page and put the extracted password and user in the login section in basic settings section, underneath were it says encapsulation PPPoA.

Everything seems to be working correctly internet is going good guns.

Have i done everything correctly? It might sound a bit silly but i am still on my own sky line right? My bill will be the same etc?

Thanks!
Joe

Sounds like you've done everything right. It's the same connection to will be the same bill. Sky won't give you support with the non sky router, that's all.

Apparently they have the right to charge you for not using their router. Not sure how true this is but this is what I got told by their Customer Service.

Could either of you test something for me. My speeds have started fluctuating so ckecked SKYs website to find this:

Testing on your broadband connection began on 23/06/2012 and will be completed within 10 days.

I've had sky broadband for 3-4 years. Either of you experienced this?

No but maybe it's noticed a problem with your line and started DLM again to provide you with a more stable (slower) connection. Some say turning the router on and off too much can cause this.
