Been looking at getting either a Sky or VM TV/broadband package. I can't get VM cable and freeview via aerial is rubbish in my area! So now looking at Sky £26 package as the better deal.

Can anyone tell me if I get the Sky package whether or not I can change the router??? I rang them and they said I HAVE to use theres due to the firmware installed. TBH I would want a better wireless router such as the netgear rangemax, the one they offer is the standard netgear and I think I will have issues with the connection.

Any thoughts??? D.

i've just got sky bb with the netgear router and it is carp. the BB is fine but the wireless is, well, useless. it only works in the same room as the router. And we've got quite thin walls.. I'm in the process of getting a high-gain antenna to see if that helps (7dbi) - it's only 6 quid.. it prob won't help much but theres other hardware. Its bad.. we had to wait for this deal to get broadband back, the person whos account it is wants to cancel it.. the connection's pretty good, i want to keep this.. I just want a chance to sort it out. TBH if it was just me it'd be no problem.. *sigh*

I'm looking at all sorts of other bits n stuff.. At the worst, i'll need to spend the cost of a decent router, and i'll get a really good network out of it..

mains plug based networking, wireless boosters, wireless nics, high gain antennas..

:(

yes you can I am using a linksys a lot better than their netgear

it is against the t&c

you have to get the username and password of the router, not easy unless you go to the unofficial sky forum, but that sky forum will also give you the settings

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/

if this is against the forum rules am sorry didnt know

You sure its the router at fault? Could be your wireless adaptor - if its USB, some can have terrible ranges. Just a thought...

Well, one of the laptops is using one of them netgear USB dongles but this one is using its on board wireless (samsung r20) - I'm good with wired but a beginner with wireless so
