When im downloading i get like 30-40kb/s before i was on tiscali i could get around 600-700. But this time on sky i have a router. On tiscali it was a usb modem.

On msn when i receive a file its DEAD SLOW, took 3 minutes to send a 98kb JPG file...but when i send others a small file its just instant.

When im torrenting for ebooks the download speed is ***** sometimes doesnt start but on the other hand when i get to about 1% upload speed is around 120-150kb/s on any torrent. ( useing ABC torrent )

I tried different Internet browers. Google chrome downloading my websites backup file 42kb/s adverage. Internet explorer 988BYTE/s, modzilla firefox constant 39kb/s, opera 62kb/s

Could be port settings in each of the browsers? or is the router sky gives you crappy? Iv not touched any ports, i downloaded that file with each browser with NO firewall.
If you know any good settings for the sky router please say. Getting fed up. i wanna go back to dial up or the expensive tiscali.

Make sure you fully star out swear words please.

Look in 192.168.0.1 & post your sync stats should look like this:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13567 kbps 958 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.5 db 17.3 db
Noise Margin 7.9 db 8.5 db

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6816 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.0 db 13.0 db
Noise Margin 9.1 db 24.0 db

Them stats look perfectly normal to me, do sky still send out the Netgear DG834GT routers? Also how long have you had Sky Broadband as if you are still in the first 14 days then the connection needs to settle & might be up and down or so for a bit.

nope i have a sagem F@ST2504. Iv had it for around 5-6 months now, before it was alright. faster than tiscali and now its just went upside down and extremely slow.
Just checked my bandwith is no where near the limit if that helps anyone who might know whats wrong.

Shame, the Netgear DG834GT's are excellent routers.

I would give Sky a call and ask them to do some line testing, see if any problems arise. Have you also checked the phone line wiring in your house & connect your computer directly up to the router via LAN cable and see if there are any difference in speeds?

i have tried different filters along the line but i see no difference. My router is connected up to my pc via the etheral port if thats what you mean.

I gave sky a call and they say there is no problem. They said that i should leave it unconnected for 25 hours. They didnt really give a reason for that.

would i be able to buy a netgear DG834GT ?

Yes you can buy Netgear routers everywhere, but you would need your Sky Broadband user name & password in order to be able to get connected to the internet, on the router's that Sky supply does have there own Sky firmware on it (for me its exactly the same as the normal Netgear firmware but it has the sky logo & a couple of extra Sky features). The only thing is though you would need to ring Sky to obtain your broadband's Username & Password, because I bet when you try and find the username & password on your original Sagem router you will not be able to find it, (likely to be hidden in the Sky firmware for security reasons & your details are already on the router when you first receive it from Sky so you are ready to use it) as this is how it is on my current Sky DG834GT router.

Liam

cheers liam! ill phone sky up tomorrow and ask for it, then ill go and see about buying the router.
thanks again!

sky will NOT give you your password/username as it's hardcoded into your router.

However a simple check here gives you the details you require to use any other router of your choice. It is technically against Skys T&C's to use another router but as a means of testing i would advise you give it a go to see what happens.

You line stats appear absolutely fine so no idea what the issues are.
