Any issues to be aware of with the Sky Broadband and Phone house move service?

I'm moving in about three weeks - It all seems simple enough but have any of you guys had any issues with the moving service?

I tried to move my UKOnline (now Sky) account to a new property, with no landline.

Anyway, suffice to say it never happened. It may be different if the new place already has a physical phone line installed, but Sky couldn't get the line put in, which meant I had to go with BT for the line rental and Sky for the broadband.

The sting in the tail is that they charge another £2.50 / month, if you do it this way :(

I'm hoping its straightforward but you just never know with these things.

Hopefully it'll all go ok - especially as we are only move two doors down the road :p

Are you keeping the same house number? or just having a new line/new number?

If so should be no issues and pretty quick

Usually there is a delay if you are moving and keeping your same number

I'm not fussed at all about keeping the number - they have said a 14 day approx for the phone line and broadband which seems rather a long wait.

I am not sure about the turnover on the phone line, however Broadband is 7-10 working days standard unless your ISP offers a fast-track service, which is more like 3-4 working days, however "if" they do offer fast track, this wont be free! as the ISP gets invoiced by BT Wholesale for the privilege of fast tracking, so they will add a mark up and most likely pass YOU the invoice. It's usually in the region of £150+ however not everyone offers this service. It's mainly marketed at businesses who need a quicker turnaround on installation and provisioning of a service.

So I think your 14 days sounds about right if you include your telephone line install/activation and then the broadband provisioning

Sky can take ages to get broadband up and running on a newly provisioned line. Took me about 1 week to get the line fitted, 3 days for it to show up on the system and a fortnight (or so) for Sky to sort out the broadband.

Their new WLR3 lines activate the Phone and the BB on the same day, roughly 10 working days form the order is placed.

The older Non-SVBN networks activate the phone line first(roughly 2 weeks for this), then once that is active they have to process the BB Order(7-14 days), they generally tend not to do it this way now due to the handiness of WRL3, but depends on the area and exchange.

Urgh, doing a Moving House thing now with Sky. Apparently it even takes up to 2 weeks to cancel the broadband at my old place?? Why does this take so long? And would this not affect the new tenants who are moving in straight away?

So 2 weeks to cancel, 2 weeks to set a new order up, going to be 1 whole month without broadband :-/ Although last time I did this I just kept trying the modem each day and it was up and running much sooner than their 2 week 'live' date
