Hi, i've recently taken a new job in the lake district, part of this was i get to 'live' in a static caravan on site. (you might laugh but i've probably got some of the best views in the UK from outside my window (bring on the ***** comments :p) However, it's right in the sticks, 4 miles to closest shop, no mobile signal and a crappy wifi connection which keeps connecting / disconnecting from the pub. I've tried bridging the wifi to my TP-Link TL-WR841 router, it finds the connection but won't bridge the wifi for some reason.

Anyhow, i have a sky tv contract - which is being fitted on Monday, but can i get a phone line fitted so i can get my own broadband connection and get rid of this crappy connection i'm on now?

Thx

*****.

Getting a phone line installed will be mucho monies unless their is existing infrastructure nearby, which it doesn't sound like their is :p

Enjoy the views, go back to basics and forget about the internet. It'll be hard for the first few weeks, but once you forget about the porn you'll be fine with emails through your phone again.

Well the pub obviously has a land line so the infastructure is there, surely it'd be a matter of running a line from the mast where the pubs line is?

Either way, it seems sky don't provide BB to my address, BT definitely do though so i guess that may be the next stop.

Sky run over BT infrastructure. Unless your local exchange/cow shed hasn't been unbundled.

Is the wifi connection in the pub a public hotspot or their own connection shared?

If it's their own connection perhaps you could offer to buy a new router / get a second router and stick a directional antenna on it pointing to the caravan so you get a better signal?

Cheaper than getting a new line.

I had to live in one for 3 months and unfortunately the only answer was/is getting a dongle. The speeds are shocking to be fair even with good signal, but I still managed to get some Guild Wars 2 on the go :)

Before trying to get an installation to a static caravan try a home brew Yagi antenna first. They can get surprisingly good improvements, and you already have a flakey link to improve upon.
