Sky Broadband

i had sky broadband for six weeks after which i had a major rant at them on the phone, sacked them, and got back every penny i paid.
through them my connection was intermittant and it was impossible to play anything online competitively.

Some pretty handy replies there guys, cheers :)

I will get back onto him and show him this thread, hopefully there may be a way out of this after all, or failing that, possibly a solution to it which will enable him to play online games again.

Cheers all

Bry.

Incorrect - legally is it possible to cancel the contract and there is nothing they can do to stop you (specific performance would not be awarded in such a case, in my opinion), although one must ensure that the other party is placed in the same position as if the contract was fulfilled - though that's probably not a viable solution given the cost involved potentially.

You are incorrect, what can I say I dont work there

You are only permitted to cancel your contract after a long running problem either with No connection or a speed of under 128kbps. As this is not classed as broadband if under and thus we cannot charge for it.

We do however look at things on a case by case and if we in T3 decide you cannot get it then we cancel it. You can of course legally gain your mac code at any time under new regulation however we can keep our tags on your line for the remainder of your 12 month term.

Also as you previously mentioned you can buy yourself out of your contract if you wish, or if your tv is cancelled your broadband will also cancel. But hey I am stating the only ways you can cancel without fee.

What I stated is 'buying yourself out of your contract'.

Please, if you wish to contend with something I say, do so with civility. I stated the legal position - you can cancel your contract, so long as you pay for the rest of the term - I don't see how you missed that from my post.

My knowledge is derived from studying contract law for 2 years, I don't care what Sky themselves say.

...now I note you have edited your original post. Without a fee is an entirely different prospect (and nigh on impossible). Whether you need to cancel the TV and everything else depends on how you took out your contract. If you simply added the Sky BB to your package, you would only need to buy out the BB element.

U incorrectly stated I was wrong, I never implied I was talking about your information with regards to the contract. I said the only way to cancel is what I posted, therefor correct.

However he now has all the relevant information so I think we should put this down to a simple misunderstanding, and I have no doubt you know the law a lot better than I ever shall. :)

Without lines stats, everything we say is conjecture.

It may be that his line is particularly unsuited to a lower SNR, even though the default 7dB should be enough. Perhaps you should ask him to edit the default SNR using the mognuts utility -

http://dg834gt.mognuts.com/NetgearRouterUtility.html setting it to something like 10dB and see how he gets on. Though this is only if the low SNR is the problem.
