Sky Broadband

Probly not is the answer. The T&Cs state you must use the supplier router, also the username/password is hardcoded into the router. Coupled with the custom firmware you can't just copy and paste it out.

Sky have changed router in the last few weeks. The old router was a Netgear DG834GT with custom firmware which some enterprising peeps hax0red so you can get the details. The new custom made to Sky's requirements router has no workaround at the moment.

Nothing to stop you just using the Sky router as modem and connecting your existing router to that. Bit complicated but do-able...

The version 1 netgears user info could be got to with the methods on the skyuser site, as Magic said the routers have changed to version 2 ones within the last few months. These have the info hard coded into the router and not sure at this time it can be accessed not been on the skyuser site for a few weeks. These are either an upgraded version of the netgear or a sagem router luck for what you will receive.

A wee bit annoying if I cant use my existing Belkin router. If I do use Skys router, will I be able to use the Belkin Wireless adapter I have in my PC?

Don't see why not. I've had no trouble at all with the Sky Netgear v1. Used a variety of stuff with it without problem - must be 10+ different types including various Centrinos, Apple Airports and a Belkin USB stick.

The only problem I've found with the Sky Netgear is the uPnP being utterly useless.

What Belkin router is it - you won't get the same range/speed if the router and adapter were pre-N kit.

At a quick glance, router is a Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless G Router and adapter is Belkin Wireless G USB Network adapter.

Could I ask what pre-N is?

I have been on Sky Max for 1 year now and I have never had a problem. Well, the exchange has gone down twice for about 3 hours but that is not Sky's fault.

Absolutely brilliant service for me. The router is completely stable for me too, but maybe that is becuase I'm only connected at 6MBps due to line length.

Been on Sky max for about 6 months and haven't really had a problem. Get fast speeds, stable connection and low pings for £10 a month. :)

My pings were around 50 which have now been halved to around 25 by asking sky to lower the max delay to 8. Didn't affect my speeds at all.

Cheers mate, gave them a call this morning and within 10 mins my profile had been updated.

Got to wait for it to settle, but my profile speed stayed roughly the same and my gaming pings have lowered considerable.

CSS from 70/80 to 30's and COD4 80's to 60's.

As I have said, never had a problem with them at all.

How is P2P on Sky? I'm with BT at the moment and whilst the connection is stable the speeds are a joke, especially P2P. Unless its in the early hours of the morning it's basically dial-up speeds... which is a ****-take when I'm on Option 3 8mb.
